| Family: Onagraceae (Evening Primrose) |
| Flowers — color: pink, size: 1/4", type: 4 petals |
Panicled Willowherb's flower has four pink petals about 3/8" diameter. Each petal has dark red veins and a notch so deep it looks like two petals. Fringed willowherb has similar appearance, different leaf structure. Yellow stamens form a bull's-eye target in center.
The flowers form in panicles, complex branching racemes that are linear arrays of flower buds that bloom serially from bottom to top. Late bloomer (August).
Habit:
Panicled Willowherb is an annual herb with tall colmnar form. The main stem may reach six feet tall. The long, narrow, leaves arch downwards and have fine teeth on edges. Multiple smaller subsidiary leaves grow at the lower leaf nodes—a fasicle. The stem will branch at the top forming many flower clusters.
This willowherb prefers open sunny areas.
