Senecio flaccidus
Family: Asteraceae (Aster)
Flowers — color: yellow, size: 1", type: daisy, (compound)
Threadleaf Ragwort has a yellow daisy-like flower, about one inch wide. A dozen ray florets ring the flower, and several dozen disk florets form the core, appearing to open from the outside in. Six to ten blooms cluster in a loose branching corymb or panicle.
Habit:
Threadleaf Ragwort is a large short-lived perennial. It forms a loose mound that may reach four feet high. The compound leaf has needle-like leaflets. California sagebrush has similar foliage but finer leaves.
Dune Ragwort, Senecio blochmaniae, with a range from Guadelupe to Point Conception, has similar appearance, but its flowers have only five ray florets. Open sunny areas of the coastal sage scrub.
Observations:
I found one sample near Oak Hill Drive. It wasn't too healthy looking, and wasn't there two years later.
